O LOTO – u
ABOUT LOTTO
A competitive spirit and a pristine need for games brought us passion towards games of chance. It is indeed hard to find an artist, a philosopher or a sociologist who hasn’t dealt with the phenomenon of luck in his work. Games of chance have inspired canvases of great artists, verses of famous poets. Combinatorics, as a branch of mathematics, considerably owes its importance to games of chance. The game lotto was created in Italy during the period of renaissance. There was a lot of interest in the outcome of Big Council in Genoa. Every year, they picked 5 members from 90 candidates in total. The Genoese tried to guess the results betting the outcome. In 1620, a member of the Big Council, Benedetto Gentile, used this interest in betting for the outcome of the elections and organized a game which today has a base in all kinds of lotto games.
